CofC Races Through Day One of Weems Baskin Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The College of Charleston track & field program wrapped up the opening day of USC's Weems Baskin Invitational Friday, picking up four new marks on their all-time Top 10 performance lists.
Leona Burton Rojas found great success both on the track and out in the field. The freshman finished fifth in the long jump, improving her PR by 3cm with a leap of 5.56m. She also finished 14th in the 100m dash with a new personal best of 12.57, four spots ahead of Maya Pringle (12.70) who etched her name at No. 8 on the Top 10 performance list.
Elsewhere in the javelin throw, Jenny Martin was the top finisher for the Cougars with a throw of 36.61m to take seventh. Nicole Lane finished just behind her in eighth with a personal best throw of 36.35m. Elsewhere in the throws, Courtney Brooks finished first among her teammates with a throw of 42.71m to capture seventh in the hammer.
Jordan Gravelle logged a 17th place finish in the 400m dash with a time of 60.10, while the 4x300m relay team took fourth with a time of 2:59.67. Mary Kate Brelsford rounded out the evening for the Cougar women with a ninth-place finish in the 5000m run, crossing the finish line with a time of 20:12.12. Sam Beattie represented for the men's cross country team, finishing fourth in the 5000m with a time of 15:34.10.
The Cougars will wrap up the meet in tomorrow's final day of competition. The Cougars will get started in the field, with the shot put, triple jump and high jump all booked to get underway at 9 a.m. The 1500m will be the first scheduled track event of the day, which will kick off an hour later at 10 a.m.
