WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - The College of Charleston track & field program got through the opening day of the Colonial Relays on Thursday, with Tori Churchill establishing a new personal best in the 10000m run and three hammer throwers making their marks as well.
In just the second 10000m of her collegiate career, Churchill took 20th with a PR of 37:50.55. The effort shaved 37 seconds off of her previous best from last year's CAA Championships, which advanced her past Danielle Sams (2015) for the No. 3 spot on the CofC Top 10 performance list.
The hammer was the only other Thursday event that involved CofC athletes, featuring Courtney Brooks, Alex Coyle and Asia Johnson. Brooks led the pack to finish 13th overall with a heave of 42.07m, followed by Coyle's 40.64m and Johnson's 38.00m
Action continues Friday, with the long jump kicking things off in the field events at 10:30 a.m. and the 100m hurdles marking the beginning of the women's collegiate track events at noon.
