Cougars Record First Shutout of the Season

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston softball team split games with Rutgers and Robert Morris Saturday afternoon at the Low Country Classic.
Mia Dittoe matched her career high three hits with two RBIs in the 9-4 loss to Rutgers and finished the day hitting 5-for-7.
Chloe Valdez doubled in the bottom of the seventh to record her first RBI of the season, but the late rally fell short.
Charleston recorded 10 hits for the third time this season, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.
The Cougars bounced back with a 3-0 defeat of Robert Morris for their first shutout of the season.
Halle Cannon hit her first career home run in the bottom of the second to put the Cougars on the board early.
Karlee Hughes drove in the second run with a bases-loaded single in the fourth followed by a single down the middle in the sixth inning for her third hit of the night.
Payton Lemire pitched a complete game, fanning five and only allowing four hits. The senior picked up her first win of the season as well as her first career shutout.

The Cougars face Robert Morris again on Sunday to close out the Low Country Classic. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. at Patriots Point.
