CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (2-4) had a troublesome night scoring baskets Wednesday night, allowing North Florida (5-3) to capitalize and secure the 60-47 win.
• The Cougars went down 16-4 early, but responded with a 10-0 run and finished the first quarter only down 18-14. UNF was up around 10 points for the remainder of the game save for an early fourth quarter sequence where
Tanisha Brown scored three straight baskets to cut the gap to three. Unfortunately, that's as close as the Cougars would get.
•
Tanisha Brown recorded her fourth double-double of the season with a 13-10 performance on 5 of 11 shooting.
•
Breanna Bolden and
Shiclasia Brown combined for eight of the Cougars' eleven steals on the night, helping the College force UNF into 24 turnovers. It was
Shiclasia Brown's first start of the year, and she added eight points.
• Freshman
Baileigh Larson celebrated her hometown-game with career-highs in both scoring (11) and rebounds (5), adding a steal and a block. The Florida native was 4 of 8 from the field.
• The Cougars shot 27.0% (17 of 63) from the field and 0 of 15 from long-range.
"I saw a lot of effort from North Florida that wasn't matched the entire game by us," head coach
Candice M. Jackson said. "We had a really poor shooting night, and I think that really affected how we defended. We have to do better."
The College now braces for a three-game road trip, beginning with a Sunday showdown against Houston on Hofheinz Pavilion. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. eastern, 2. p.m. central.
