Tigers Overtake Cougars in Closing Moments

CHARLESTON, S.C. – In a game that went down to the wire, the Towson Tigers (9-7, 2-3) managed to complete the comeback as the College of Charleston women's basketball team (5-11, 2-3) fell on the road by a score of 61-59.

• The Cougars had an excellent showing in the first half of the game, going a collective 16 of 33 from the field and 5 of 8 from beyond the arc. The Cougars pushed the lead as high as 13, and when Towson managed to cut the lead down in the waning minutes of the half, Tanisha Brown put the exclamation point on things by getting an offensive rebound on a blocked shot and sinking a buzzer-beating 18-footer to send the College into the locker room up 38-29.

• Raven Bankston, the third-leading scorer in the CAA, ran into early foul trouble and picked up her third infraction before half time. However, after Breanna Bolden sunk a free-throw line bank shot to tie the game at 59-59 with 30 seconds to play, it was Bankston who was the hero for the Tigers, driving down the lane and converting the eventual game-winning layup with four seconds remaining.

• Bolden was limited offensively, but nonetheless finished with a 10-13 double-double, adding three steals and a career-high seven assists. For the second time this season, the Cougars had two players earn double-doubles, as Tanisha Brown picked up her seventh of the season with a 15-point, 10-rebound night to go with her four steals. Dajah Logan was hot early as the first player on either team to crack double-digit scoring, and for the second-straight game had a 14-point day.

• Though it was all Charleston early, the game wound up featuring seven lead changes, all of which occurred in the final 14 minutes of the game. The two teams were evenly matched in many categories, but Towson set themselves apart in bench-scoring (34-8) and free throw shooting (83.3% vs. 45.5%) to win the day.

The Cougars remain on the road next weekend, when they will face both Drexel and Delaware.
