CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (1-0) won their season-opener on Friday, pulling away late to defeat the Lipscomb Bisons (0-1) 85-69 at TD Arena.

Shiclasia Brown had a career day in her first game of the season, pouring in a career-high 29 points on 9 of 17 shooting from the field and 8 of 8 from the charity stripe. The senior point guard also matched another career-high with six rebounds, and added five assists for good measure.
• Not to be outdone,
Tanisha Brown tallied the 11
th double-double of her CofC career with a 21-12 on 9 of 12 shooting and 3 of 3 from the line. Brown also dished out five assists of her own, adding a steal and a block.
Darien Huff also came up big for the Cougars, scoring 12 points to go along with five boards, three steals and two assists.
• Lipscomb hung with the Cougars for much of the game, keeping the margin to single digits for the entire first half. CofC didn't truly put the game away until the fourth quarter, when they ripped off a 17-4 run to begin the quarter to increase the lead to 19.
• All-told, the Cougars shot an efficient 49.2% from the field (31 of 63), limited turnovers to 13, and dominated the rebound battle 45-36.
The Cougars will now hit the road for the three-game road trip, which begins on Sunday when they travel across the state to Greenville to visit the Furman Paladins.
