11/26/2017 7:26:00 PM | Women's Basketball
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (1-5) kept it close after falling behind early in Sunday, but were never quite able to catch Appalachian State (1-5), who sunk their late free throws to hand the Cougars the 76-70 defeat.
• It was a day of career-highs for the Cougars despite the loss. Tanisha Brown had a monster 19-16 double-double on 9 of 18 shooting, adding two blocks and two steals to establish a rebounding career high. Brianna Boyd (21 Pts) and Deja Ford (15 Pts) were the two other high scorers for the Cougars, and each set new scoring career highs.
• The last time the Cougars had the lead was at the beginning of the second quarter following a layup from Boyd. After that, the Mountaineers gradually extended their lead, getting it as high as 14 points by the midway point of the third quarter.
• App State had the advantage on the glass (43-34), but truly separated themselves from beyond the arc, shooting a blistering 45.5% (10 of 22). Prior to Sunday, they had shot just 26% from deep for the year.
• Tierra Wilson led the way for the Mountaineers with a game-high 23 points, draining five shots from deep. Bayley Plummer distinguished herself as well with a 14-11 double-double.
The Cougars return to action on Thursday when they hit the road to take on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.
