JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (3-6) rebounded from a slow start with an excellent second quarter on Friday night, which was enough for CofC to stave off a late UNF comeback to defeat the Ospreys (5-6) 73-69.
• The Cougars ripper off a 12-0 run in the second quarter, which featured three-pointers from
Cailin Dorsey and
Deja Ford. All told, CofC erased a 10-point first quarter deficit and outscored the Ospreys 26-8 in the second to go up 37-29 heading into the locker room at half.
•
Tanisha Brown recorded the 14
th double-double of her collegiate career, scoring 14 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
• Three other Cougars reached double-digits along with Brown.
Darien Huff sunk 15 points on the strength of three three-pointers, while
Shiclasia Brown had a well-rounded night with 12 points, four rebounds and six assists.
Deja Ford came one point shy of a career-high, scoring 14 on a team-high 15 FG attempts.
• The Cougars seized the win with strong interior play on the offensive end, scoring 40 points in the paint to the Ospreys' 20. As a result, the College enjoyed superior shooting numbers, going 43.5% from the field to UNF's 34.5%.
• Tesh Hanson led all scorers with 17 points for the Ospreys, while Keonna Farmer was one rebound shy of a double-double (16-9).
The Cougars return home for the remainder of their non-conference slate, and will host the Wofford Terriers on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
