CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (4-8, 0-1) dropped their conference opener at home on Friday night, falling 68-54 at the hands of the William & Mary Tribe (10-2, 1-0).
• The Cougars shot the ball very effectively to start the game, making five of their first six shots. However, turnovers plagued them through the entire first half, and the team went into the locker room with 19 giveaways. CofC was more prudent with the ball in the second half, but all told, the Cougars committed 26 turnovers on the night, one shy of their season-high.
• CofC outscored the Tribe 30-26 in the second half of the game, but it wasn't enough to overcome William & Mary's 42-24 halftime lead. The Cougars were able to fight their way back by forcing W&M into some tough perimeter shots, as the Tribe went 1 of 21 from long range.
• Senior forward
Tanisha Brown recorded her 15
th career double-double, pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds to go with ten points. She was the only Cougar on the night to reach double-digit scoring.
• William & Mary center Abby Rendle, who led the nation in blocks with five per contest, was held to just one rejection on the evening. She found other ways to contribute however, scoring a career-high 26 points on a blistering 12 of 14 from the field. She led the way for the Tribe, who posted a strong 29 of 60 shooting performance.
The Cougars will look to bounce back on the road, as the team heads to Maryland for a shot at Towson on Sunday. That game will take place in SECU Arena at noon.
