Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Chris Chandler, Assistant Director of Athletics Communications

Brown’s Massive Night Spoiled by Late Comeback

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (8-15, 5-7) led by as many as 16 Friday night in the David S. Mack Complex, but the Hofstra Pride (10-13, 3-9) exploited the Cougars getting into foul trouble in the fourth quarter to come back and steal the 85-81 win.

• The Cougars led for over 33 minutes of the game, setting the tone early with a 17-14 lead after the first quarter and a 44-32 lead at half. Fortunes shifted in the fourth quarter, where CofC committed four fouls in the opening two minutes to put the Pride in the bonus for the remainder of the game. Hofstra took full advantage of the situation, earning 17 of their 30 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter, which allowed them to take the lead for good with three minutes left.
  • Corona, N.Y. native Shiclasia Brown played the best offensive game of her career in front of several of her friends and family members, scoring a career-high 25 points on 10 of 16 shooting from the field and 5 of 7 shooting from long-range. Not only was it a personal best, it was the highest scoring output of any Cougar in a game this season. Brown surpassed her previous career-high of 14 points in just 10 minutes of action, and finished the game with 29 minutes.

Breanna Bolden tallied her eighth double-double of the season and 20th of her career with 12 points and 12 rebounds. In addition, she matched her career-high with seven assists and pawed away six steals on the evening. It was also the third straight game the senior was perfect from the charity stripe (4 of 4), and is now 18 of 18 over that span.

Darien Huff and Tanisha Brown both scored in double-digits for the Cougars with 10 and 13 points respectively. Dajah Logan set the tone for the Cougars early with seven points in the first five minutes of the game, and finished with nine points and six rebounds.

• Outside of the discrepancy in free throw attempts (30 for Hofstra, 14 for CofC), the game was very close otherwise. The Cougars edged Hofstra in the turnover battle 13 to 16, Hofstra out-rebounded CofC 45-38, and the shooting percentages were almost even. Ashunae Durant (25 points, 13 rebounds) Krystal Luciano (20 points, 10 assists) and Aleana Leon (17 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists) all stood out for the Pride on an individual level.

The Cougars remain on the road to close out the weekend, and will travel north for a 2 p.m. showdown with Northeastern (7-17, 3-9) on Sunday.
