BOSTON, MASS. – Despite another historic outing in the storied career of senior guard
Breanna Bolden, the College of Charleston women's basketball team (8-16, 5-8) fell into an early hole in the first quarter Sunday in the Cabot Center, and Northeastern (8-17, 4-9) maintained the lead throughout the game to preserve the 61-44 win.
•
Breanna Bolden made history yet again for the College, recording four steals on the night to improve her career-total to 321 and break Regina Brown's 34 year-old All-Time steals record. Bolden previously broke the school's Division I Era steals record in the first game of the year against Charlotte, and two weeks ago against Hofstra, surpassed the CofC Division I Era points record by scoring her 1457
th career point. The senior finished the game with her ninth double-double of the year, scoring 21 points on 9 of 20 shooting to go with 10 rebounds.
• The Huskies got the jump on the Cougars in the first quarter by taking a 20-10 lead through the opening 10 minutes. CofC couldn't make up ground on the deficit, being narrowly outscored in each of the following three quarters. Shooting struggles were the culprit in the CofC loss, as the Cougars shot 22.4% (15 of 67) from the field. Taking advantage of the misses, the Huskies pulled down 51 rebounds to the College's 38.
• Bri Boyd had a career-best three steals in 16 minutes of play, while
Tanisha Brown accrued seven rebounds.
• Northeastern received solid performances from Claudia Ortiz (23 points, 5 rebounds) and Francesca Sally (13 points, 15 rebounds, 2 blocks).
The Cougars will stay on the road for one more contest, a Friday night affair with William & Mary on Jan. 19.
