The College of Charleston sailing team placed in the top five in all but two races, including three first-place finishes, to win the ICSA National Sloop Championship held this weekend at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Center at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
The Cougars won with 33 points, 10 ahead of second-place St. Mary's.
The Coast Guard Academy, which led after the first day, finished with 46 points and third.
Skipper Russ O'Reilly and crew members Chris Lash and Brendan Healy led the College of Charleston to its second national championship this fall. Cougar women's sailor Shannon Heausler won the ICSA Singlehanded National Championship earlier this month.
Charleston takes off for the winter and resumes with its spring season in early February.
