College of Charleston women's sailor Shannon Heausler won the ICSA/Vanguard Singlehanded National Championship held this weekend at Roger Williams University in Brstol, R.I. Teammate Allison Blecher placed second after 11 races. There was now racing Sunday due to lack of wind.
Heausler had 55 points after 11 races, while Blecher was close behind with 61 points. She was followed closely by Navy's Charlotte Hull.
"Both girls did a great job this weekend," said Head Women's Sailing Coach Ward Cromwell. "Shannon did great in sailing the shift and not making any mistakes. She was consistent all weekend."
Heausler, in her 11 races, had five top five finishes, including a second in the fourth race. Blecher posted four wins in five top five finishes.
On the men's side, Cougar Chris Lash was 14th after 12 races with 121 points.
