CofC Drops Regular Season Finale to Georgia Southern, 74-65

Philip McCandies' career-high seven blocks and Jermaine Johnson and David Lawrence's team-high 14 points were not enough for CofC in its regular season finale defeat against Georgia Southern, 74-65, before 2,703 at the Hanner Fieldhouse in Statesboro, Ga. on Saturday.

The Cougars finish the regular season with a record of 20-10 and 13-5 in the SoCon, while the Eagles improve to 14-15 and 7-11 in the SoCon.

The Cougars held a 39-36 lead heading into halftime after shooting 48.5 percent from the field, including making six out of 13 three-pointers in the first half. Ga. Southern shot 35.0 percent and made three out of seven threes in the half.

GSU responded by outscoring CofC 38-26 in the second half to earn the victory.

For the game, Charleston shot 44.1 percent and made nine out of 22 threes. GSU shot an even 40.0 percent and made five out of 11 three-pointers. Georgia Southern made 13 out of 19 free-throws, while Charleston made only four out of six. Georgia Southern held a slight rebounding advantage in the game, 39-38. Charleston had 17 turnovers in the game, while GSU had only nine.

Louis Graham had a game-high 19 points and nine rebounds for Georgia Southern in the victory. Matt Field's 14 points and eight rebounds, as well as Dwayne Foreman's 12 points, Diogo Salazar's 11 points and Donte Gennie's 10 points paced the Eagles.

Dontaye Draper had nine points and nine assists for Charleston in the loss.

The Cougars will return to action in the Southern Conference Tournament held at the North Charleston Coliseum in Charleston, S.C. beginning on February 27. No game matchups have been determined at this time.
