
College of Charleston Sailing Earns Two Wins in Three Events

The College of Charleston sailing team competed in three regattas Oct. 10-11 and came away with a fifth at the Navy Fall Women's Intersectional, as well as a win at North Points #4 in Wilmington, N.C. and SAISA Sloop Championship held at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Center in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
The Cougars finished fifth out of 16 teams with 290 points at the Navy Fall Women's Intersectional held in Annapolis, Md. Yale won the event with 174 points. Allie Blecher, Alyssa Aitken and Molly O'Neill led the Cougars to second in the A-Division to post 71 points. Shannon Heausler, Becky Bestoso and O'Neill paced the B-Division to sixth with 103 points. Corey Hall competed in the C-Division and totaled 116 points for eighth.
Charleston won 14 of 18 races to take victory at North Points #4 with 25 points, 26 ahead of host UNC Wilmington. The Cougars took both the A and B-Divisions with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
The Cougars rounded out the successful weekend with the win at the SAISA Sloop Championship, hosted by Charleston. Jackson Benvenutti, Cole Allsopp, Zeke Horowitz and Brooks Clark sailed for the Cougars and finished second in three of six races and first in the other three to total nine points and lead the Cougars to the victory over second-place South Florida.
Charleston competes in four events Oct. 17-18, starting with the Captain Hurst Bowl in Hanover, N.H. and then North Points #5 in Atlanta, Ga. The Cougars also compete at the Yale Women's Intersectional in Branford, Conn., and the Navy Fall Intersectional in Annapolis, Md.
