CofC To Play at Troy in College Basketball Invitational

The College of Charleston men's basketball team has been selected to play in the 2009 College Basketball Invitational. The Cougars will play at Troy on Wednesday, March 18 at 8:00 p.m. ET as part of the tournament's East Regional. This is the second meeting all-time between the schools. The Cougars beat the Trojans, 92-42, at John Kresse Arena on January 5, 1998. The winners plays either Richmond or St. John's on March 23.
The Cougars finished the regular season with a 26-8 overall record and a 15-5 mark in Southern Conference play. The Cougars finished second in the SoCon Tournament losing at Chattanooga, 80-69, in the tournament's title game. Charleston opened the SoCon Tournament with a 69-56 win over UNC Greensboro, beat Western Carolina, 67-48, in second round action and downed Davidson for the second time in three meetings this season, 59-52, in the semifinals.
Troy finished the regular season with a 19-12 overall record after posting a third place finish in the Sun Belt's regular season with a 14-4 league mark. Troy dropped a 78-75 decision to South Alabama in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Tournament.
The College Basketball Invitational is a single-elimination tournament, up until the "Best of Three" Championship Series, with all games being played at campus sites. Prior to the semifinals, the remaining teams will be re-seeded. The Championship Series is a "Best of Three" (home-away-home) in which the higher seeded team will host the first and last (if necessary) home games.
