First place in the Southern Conference's South Division is on the line when the College of Charleston travels to arch-rival The Citadel for a 7:05 p.m. tipoff on Saturday at McAlister Field House. Charleston enters the game with an 8-6 overall record and a 3-0 league mark. The Citadel is 8-7 and 2-1.
The Cougars lead the all-time series 46-39, but dropped a pair of decisions to the Bulldogs last season including a 72-63 setback at McAlister Field House on Jan. 24. The lost snapped the Cougars' 13-game winning streak over The Citadel. It was The Citadel's first victory at home over the Cougars since its 60-58 win on Feb. 4, 2001.
Both teams are coming off impressive wins this week. Charleston knocked off 9th-ranked North Carolina, 82-79 in overtime, at Carolina First Arena on Monday. Andrew Goudelock, the league's player of the week, led the Cougars with 24 points, including a dramatic 28-foot, 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds left that sent the game into overtime. Cameron Wells scored 21 points and The Citadel held off Appalachian State in the second half to take a 62-58 victory on Wednesday night in Boone, N.C.
