Head Coach Bobby Cremins
On the Cougar's performance vs. Elon
“Obviously, were not the same. Why were not the same, I don't know. Some of it could be on fatigue. First half we hung in there and had an 11-point lead at halftime and I was alright. I thought we could get back and take care of business but we didn't. We couldn't stop them. We're not playing well right now and were not playing well defensively. Defenses are doing on a good job on Goudelock and it's messing with him a little bit. We were a little bit out of sync but we hung in there. ”
Speaking about Elon's performance
“I can see now why this team can beat anybody. I can see why they beat Western Carolina and I can see why they won at Furman. We were fortunate tonight. The key was that we hung in there and that Andrew Goudelock made some great drives at the end. We had some great looks from Matt Sundberg, Casaan Breeden and Willis Hall but we couldn't knock them down. The bottom line is, we got the victory and that's great but we have to play better. We hung in there and got the win and I'm happy about that”.
About the play of Goudelock
“I was proud of Goudelock driving in the lane. He missed one I thought he had but he made some nice drives. I thought he made some great passes too but we need him to score”.
Donavan Monroe
On his performance
“I just wanted to come out with a lot of energy. Lately I've been struggling and I wanted to turn that around. I'm glad I played well tonight”.
Speaking about Elon's defensive adjustments
“I think they tried to slide their best defender over after he started out on Andrew [Goudelock]. It wasn't that much pressure. I just came out the second half and tried to keep the momentum going. We tried to adjust too and Andrew Lawrence came in and hit some big shots as a result of that. It was a grind out game. At this time of the year, you either fall off or you do what good teams do to keep going”.
Jeremy Simmons
About the Cougar's upcoming break
“This is good that we get some days to rest and regroup. We'll come back to the court on Saturday and get back at it and then have another day off on Sunday. Next week, we'll get back into game mode”.
On Elon's comeback
“Usually we put teams away but Elon put up a good fight. Have to give them a lot of respect because they just wouldn't go away”.
Andrew Goudelock
Speaking about how Elon defended him
“I was trying to get the team off to a good start and it was more important for them to be scoring and for us to get the win. Donavan [Monroe] played really well tonight but it was more of a team effort tonight”.
Commenting on the need for a fast start
“Last year we came out and scored under 10 points in the first half and that was in the back of everybody's mind tonight. We didn't want to make the same mistake again and embarrass ourselves so came out with a little bit more energy and try to get on them early”.
