
Cougars Take on Rams in CBI Quarterfinals

The College of Charleston men's basketball team, fresh off an 82-79 win at Eastern Kentucky in the College Basketball Invitational first round, travels to Richmond, Va., Monday, Mar. 22 to take on the VCU Rams at 7 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
This is the second year in a row the Cougars have traveled to Richmond, Va. for the CBI Quarterfinals. Charleston faced the Richmond Spiders in 2009, falling 74-72.
Charleston is 22-11 overall and has won six out of its last eight games. The Cougars are led by Andrew Goudelock (Lilburn, Ga.) with 19.4 points a game. Jeremy Simmons (Lithonia, Ga.) paces the team in rebounds with 7.9 a game.
VCU is 23-9 and earned a spot in the CBI quarterfinals with a 79-73 win at George Washington. Larry Sanders leads the Rams with 14.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
The Cougars are 1-3 against VCU, with the last meeting a 71-59 decision Nov. 18, 2006 in favor of the Rams at the Paradise Jam Tournament in St. Thomas. The two teams played a home-and-home series during the 2005 and 2006 seasons. Charleston took an 85-75 win at home Feb. 19, 2005, but fell on the road, 76-71, Dec. 17, 2005. In the only other meeting VCU won, 142-83, back on Nov. 28, 1969.
CofC is 19-13 against Colonial Athletic Conference Opponents in the last 20 seasons. Charleston defeated CAA's George Mason 85-83 in an ESPN Bracket Buster game Feb. 20.
Casaan Breeden (Clio, S.C.) did not travel with the team in order to concentrate on his academics, according to Head Coach Bobby Cremins.
