
Sailors Compete in Three Events, Placing Second in All

The College of Charleston sailing team competed in three events the weekend of April 24-25, and finished second in all of them. Charleston placed second at the SAISA Women's Championship, the Admiral's Cup and the Thompson Trophy Regattas.
The Cougars finished second at the SAISA Women's Championship held in St. Petersburg, Fla., winning five of 20 races to post 39 points, getting edged by Eckerd for the title. Charleston placed first in the A-Division with 18 points, with Allison Blecher (Fullerton, Calif.) and Molly O'Neill (Narragansett, R.I.) sailing for the Cougars. Shannon Heausler (Tampa, Fla.) and Deborah Ong (Singapore) led the team to second in the B-Division with 21 points.
Charleston totaled 333 points, after winning 12 races and placing in the top five in 17 others, to finish second out of 18 teams at the Admiral's Cup held in Kings Points, N.Y. Jackson Benvenutti (Bay St. Louis, Miss.) and Christina Murray (Annapolis, Md.) scored 126 points, placing third in the A-Division, while Mac Mace (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Corinna DeCollibus (Duxbury, Mass.) led the B-Division to second with 109 points. Erik Bowers (Excelsior, Minn.) sailed the C-Division to third and 98 points.
The Cougars sailed to second out of 18 teams at the Thompson Trophy Regatta held in New London, Conn., behind 172 points, which included three wins and 18 top fives. The A-Division, behind Juan Maegli (Guatemala) and Katie Weaver (Davidsonville, Md.), finished third with 89 points, while Zeke Horowitz (Sarasota, Fla.) and Erin Markee (Del Mar, Calif.) sailed the B-Division to second with 83 points.
Charleston next competes at the ICSA National Championship Semifinal May 1-2, at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Center for the right to compete at the National Championship June 1-3 in Madison WIsc.
