
Cougars Hosting ICSA National Championship Semifinal

The College of Charleston sailing team hosts the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Eastern Semifinal May 1-2 at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Center in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Charleston earned a spot in the semifinals with a second-place finish at the South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (SAISA) Dinghy Championship.
Competitors for the Cougars include Juan Maegli (Guatemala), Katie Weaver (Davidsonville, Md.), Zeke Horowitz (Sarasota, Fla.), Erin Markee (Del Mar, Calif.) and Becky Bestoso (Erie, Pa.).
Also competing are Jackson Benvenutti (Bay St. Louis, Ms.), Christina Murray (Annapolis, Md.), Allie Blecher (Bullerton, Calif.), Alyssa Aitken (Sandwich, Mass.) and Sam Stokes (Norfolk, Va.)
Sailing 420s in the event, the Cougars are looking to finish in the top nine to advance to the Nationals to be held in Madison, Wisc., June 1-3
Charleston, one of 18 teams competing in the reagatta, has already qualified for the Women's and Team Race National Championships to be held May 25-31, also in Madison.
The Cougars competed in two fall championships, with Maegli earning the ICSA Men's Singlehanded National title, and Blecher placing seventh in the Women's. CofC also finished fifth at the Sloop National Championship.
