CHARLESTON, S.C. - Senior skipper Zeke Horowitz (Sarasota, Fla.) and senior middle blocker Elyse Chubb (Peachtree City, Ga.) were tabbed College of Charleston Student-Athletes of the Week sponsored by Piggly Wiggly for the week of Sept. 19.
Horowitz and teammate Cory DeCollibus led the No. 7-ranked CofC sailing team to a B-Division win at the Hatch Brown regatta held over the weekend in Boston, Mass. The duo turned in 12 top-5 finishes in their race to guide the Cougars to a 37-point victory over host MIT on Sept. 18. CofC was one of only nine schools to field a team in both the Hatch Brown and Nevins Trophy, two premier fall intersectional regattas, defeating some of the nation's top crews ranked ahead of them in Sailing World's college coed rankings including No. 1 Yale, No. 2 Boston College, No. 4 Georgetown, No. 5 Roger Williams and No. 6 Wisconsin.
Chubb recorded her 1,000th career kill as she led the CofC volleyball team past Wyoming in the championship game of the home-hosted Hampton Inn Invitational on Sept. 17 at TD Arena. She tallied 15 kills against the Cowgirls and finished the tournament with 48 kills in four matches, posting a team-best attack percentage of .390. Chubb became just the ninth player in program history to reach 1,000 kills in a career. She was selected as the Hampton Inn Invitational Tournament MVP for her efforts.
