CHARLESTON, S.C. - The preseason No. 3-ranked College of Charleston sailing team gets its season underway at the home-hosted SAISA Open N/S #1 regatta on Sept. 8-9 at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
Three newcomers will compete in their first collegiate event this weekend as freshman skipper Jake Reynolds (San Diego, Calif.) and freshman crew Seppie McAdams (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) sail for the Cougars in A-Division and freshman skipper Dodge Rees (Pensacola, Fla.) and sophomore crew Morgan Buckley (Yonkers, N.Y.) in B-Division.
Reynolds previously competed for the San Diego Yacht Club Junior Sailing program and has international racing experience, while Rees was a member of the 2011 US Sailing Olympic Development Team as a nationally-ranked Laser sailor, who competed in the Laser World Championship and Youth Worlds. McAdams, a hometown product, competed for the Wando High School sailing team.
"We are looking forward to hosting all of the SAISA schools this weekend," CofC Head Coach Ward Cromwell said. "We will use both fleets of boats (FJ's and 420's) and it should be a great event with lots of sailing. I expect a lot from our team this season. We have a tremendous amount of depth which will make for very competitive practices. Hopefully, it will all translate to a lot of quality finishes for the Cougars over the fall and spring seasons."
For fans interested in supporting the Cougars and attending this weekend's regatta, the best place to spectate is the outside wall of the marina at the Walker Sailing Complex. Racing begins at approximately 10 a.m. (ET) and will take place right on the Cooper River by the marina in Charleston Harbor.
