Cougar Freshmen Capture North Points #4 Regatta

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Four College of Charleston freshmen sailors led the Cougars to a top-place finish at the North Points #4 regatta hosted by UNCW over the weekend in Wilmington, N.C.
CofC defeated runner-up NC State (50 points) by a 16-point margin of victory with 34 combined points across A-and B-Divisions in the race. Georgia Tech was third (65 points), host UNCW #1 fourth (69 points), Duke fifth (74 points), South Carolina sixth (95 points), Clemson seventh (100 points), UNCW #2 eighth (118 points), Auburn ninth (136 points) and Davidson 10th (140 points).
Freshman Charles Lawson Willard skippered A-Division to 10 first-place points with freshman crew Annabel Carrington (White Stone, Va.), while freshmen Gerald Williams (races 1-6) and Mac Dickson (races 7-8) skippered B-Division to 24 second-place points with Carrington also serving as crew.
The CofC women finished eighth out of 15 teams at the Navy Fall women's regatta hosted by Navy held on the Severn River off of the Robert Crown Center.
Sophomore Elizabeth Pemberton (Osterville, Mass.) skippered A-Division to an 11th-place finish with senior crew Emily Stuart (Newport, R.I), while junior Nikki Medley skippered B-Division to a ninth-place finish with senior crew Michaela Reynolds (Providence, R.I.) in races 1-6 and junior crew Chloe Dapp (Newport Beach, Calif.) in races 7-10.
In the Laser C-Division, senior Beka Schiff (Tampa, Fla.) placed first in 10 races to finish in fifth.
The offshore sailing team raced against some of the best teams in the Northeast, which provided the perfect training opportunity with excellent results in preparation for the upcoming Kennedy Offshore Cup on Nov. 7-8.
CofC sailed two teams at the regatta and placed second (11 points) and third (11 points) respectively behind first-place Tufts University (8 points). The Cougars and Jumbos finished ahead of host U.S. Coast Guard Academy and New York Maritime.
CofC looks forward to competing this weekend at the Truxtun Umstead regatta hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy on Oct. 17-18 in Annapolis, Md., the Yale Women's regatta hosted by Yale on Oct. 17-18 in Stamford, Conn., and the North Points #5 regatta hosted by Georgia Tech on Oct. 17 in Atlanta, Ga.
