MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – College of Charleston hosted sailing teams from the states of Tennessee, Georgia and Florida at the SAISA Match Race Championship regatta sailed in J-22s on Saturday.
Two round-robins and one round of the final four was completed in the marsh off of Charleston Harbor. A 10-15 mph northeasterly wind provided little relief from the strong cross current for all sailors.
Eckerd College earned a well-fought victory over second-place CofC, third-place South Florida, fourth-place Georgia Tech and fifth-place Tennessee.
Sophomore Christophe Killian (Newport Beach, Calif.) skippered the Cougars to the close runner-up finish with the aid of senior crews Beka Schiff (Tampa, Fla.), Jake Reynolds (San Diego, Calif.) and Reed Baldridge (Clear Lake, Texas).
CofC will close out the month of competition with the home-hosted SAISA Fall Coed Championship on Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex.
