Cougars Win Eighth-Consecutive SAISA Fall Coed Title

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston coed sailing team won its eighth-consecutive SAISA Fall Coed Dinghy Championship title with an 18-point margin of victory (46 points) over runner-up Eckerd College (64 points).
Two races were sailed on the Cooper River with a shifty northeast breeze ranging from 3-8 knots. The course was moved to the marsh where races No. 3-6 were completed in an ebb tide, while races No. 7-12 were completed on Crab Bank with a 10-12 knot easterly.
The Cougars combined for the lowest scores in the 12-team, two-division conference championship regatta behind senior skipper Dodge Rees (Pensacola, Fla.) and senior crew Seppie McAdams (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.), who won A-Division over Eckerd College by a score of 24 points with seven first-place finishes in 12 races.
In B-Division, senior skipper Ryan Davidson (Newport Beach, Calif.) and junior crew Emily Stuart (Newport, R.I.) were also victorious with seven first-place finishes in 12 races over South Florida, which placed third overall as a team with 80 points.
The event also included conference foes in Jacksonville in fourth (91 points), Clemson in fifth (140 points), Miami (Fla.) in sixth (168 points), UNCW in seventh (182 points), Georgia Tech in eighth (184 points), NC State in ninth (195 points), Duke in 10th (197 points), Davidson in 11th (262 points) and Tennessee in 12th (264 points).
The Cougars will next compete at the Kennedy Offshore Cup hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy on Nov. 6-8 in Annapolis, Md., and the ICSA Singlehanded Nationals hosted by Old Dominion on Nov. 7-8 in Norfolk, Va.
