CHARLESTON, S.C. – For its first event of the spring season, the College of Charleston offshore sailing team will look to carry the momentum of an undefeated fall season into the Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup hosted by Cal Maritime on March 13-15 in Los Angeles, Calif.
In their third year back at the event, the Cougars will look to capitalize on a solid month of practice at this premier, invite-only regatta that showcases 10 of the best collegiate offshore sailing programs in the nation. They placed fifth in 2014 and second in 2013.
Veteran Harbor Cup sailors Jay Greenfield, Timothy Crann (Red Bank, N.J.), Charles Essi (Lakewood, Ohio), and Brent Burrows II (Nassau, Bahamas) will be joined by newcomers Noah Blacker (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Corinne Durocher (Monroe, Mich.), Howie Meyers (Bellport, N.Y.) and Stefan Kuehn (Cutchogue, N.Y.), who are all eager to make their West Coast debut.
“We won the ICSA Keelboat National Championship this past fall, feel strong as a team and are looking for a strong showing this weekend,” said Burrows II, a senior bowman for the Cougars. “We were able to showcase a variety of athletes on our team, all contributing a different skill set from a different background. It's an awesome, and productive, mix of talents.”
