Cougars Place Fourth at Bob Bavier Team Race

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston coed sailing team placed fourth at the home-hosted Bob Bavier Team Race held over the weekend at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex.
The Cougars compiled a respectable 9-5 overall record at the two-day regatta held off of Crab Bank on Charleston Harbor. They defeated the U.S. Naval Academy, Eckerd College, South Florida, Old Dominion, Georgetown and Boston College in head-to-head racing on Saturday and Georgetown, BC and Navy for a second time in the Top 8 round contested on Sunday.
CofC sailed the event with junior Jake Reynolds (San Diego, Calif.), senior All-American Ali Blumenthal (Bellport, N.Y.), junior Ryan Davidson (Newport Beach, Calif.), senior Morgan Buckley (Yonkers, N.Y.), junior Reed Baldridge (Clear Lake Texas), freshman Elizabeth Pemberton (Osterville, Mass.), junior Dodge Rees (Pensacola, Fla.), senior Tierney Driscoll (Bayport, N.Y.), senior Nick Johnstone (Newport, R.I.) and junior Seppie McAdams (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.).
Yale won the 10-team regatta with a 12-2 record followed by St. Mary's College of Maryland (12-2) in second, Georgetown (10-4) in third and Navy (5-9) in fifth.
The College would also dominate the six-race series at the North Point #2 regatta hosted at the Clemson University Sailing Club on Saturday in Clemson, S.C. The Cougars (25 points) won convincingly with a 13-point margin of victory over second-place Georgia Tech (38 points). Skipper Eliot Caple and sophomore crew Kayla Adelman (Falmouth, Maine) finished second in A-Division, while junior skipper Sarah Mackey (Bellevue, Wash.) and sophomore crew Bayley Davidson (Newport Beach, Calif.) placed first in B-Division.
A busy weekend with five regattas are up next for CofC with travel to the Harbor Cup Offshore event on March 13-15 in Los Angeles, Calif., North Points #3 hosted by Georgia Tech on March 14 in Atlanta, Ga., the St. Mary's Team Race hosted by St. Mary's on March 14-15 in St. Mary's, Md., the Eckerd Intersectional hosted by Eckerd College on March 14-15 in St. Petersburg, Fla., and the Navy Spring Women's regatta hosted by Navy on March 14-15 in Annapolis, Md.
Charleston Women's Recap…The CofC women's sailing team finished fifth and eighth respectively at the Charleston Women's regatta on March 1. Fourteen races were sailed by 14 top-level women's teams in the country on a cold and windy weekend in Charleston Harbor. CofC's first squad was comprised of Elizabeth Pemberton, Morgan Buckley and junior Beka Schiff (Tampa, Fla.) in A-Division as well as freshman Nikki Medley and junior Charlotte Saxe (Wilton, Conn.) in B-Division. The second team featured Sarah Mackey and Bayley Davidson sailing the rotation in A, while Elliot Caple and junior Katie Dowling (Coronado, Calif.) took on competition in B.
