CofC Women Place Fifth at ICSA Nationals

NEWPORT, R.I. – The No. 7-ranked College of Charleston women's sailing team closed out competition at the Sperry Intercollegiate Sailing Association Women's National Championship regatta with a respectable fifth-place finish at the Sail Newport Sailing Center – host site of this week's three national championships.
The two-division event was contested over a series of 18 races, which determined the championship. Yale won the title with a score of 223 points followed by Boston College (228 points) in second, Brown (234 points) in third, Dartmouth (237 points) in fourth and CofC (292 points). Eighteen teams advanced from the semifinals to the finals.
The Cougars, who spent two days of qualifying and two days of high-caliber racing among the nation's-best women's teams, placed fourth in A-Division behind senior skipper Clerc Cooper (New Orleans, La.) along with sophomore crew Chloe Dapp (Newport Beach, Calif.) in races 1-2 and 13-14, junior crew Charlotte Saxe (Wilton, Conn.) in races 3-8, 10-12 and 15-18 and junior crew Michaela Reynolds (Providence, R.I.) in race 9.
In B-Division, CofC finished ninth behind freshman skipper Elizabeth Pemberton (Osterville, Mass.) in races 1-12 and 17-18 as well as junior Beka Schiff (Tampa, Fla.), who pulled double duties skippering races 13-16 and crewing races 1-12 and 17-18, and Reynolds crewing races 13-16.
CofC continues competition at nationals with the ICSA Team Race Championship regatta, which runs from May 29-31 at Sail Newport.
