Offshore Squad Claim Victory at Port Of Los Angeles Harbor Cup

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston sailing team's offshore squad headlined the weekend's competition claiming a victory at the 2016 Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup in Los Angeles, Calif.
It marked the fourth-consecutive year that the Cougars competed in the West Coast event seeing the podium twice before taking the overall championship. The win can be accredited to a skilled and extremely cohesive team performing under CofC assistant coach Ned Goss.
After enduring long-distance travel, the team dialed-in with the local conditions and it paid off after an impressive performance in the three-day, nine-race series won by the teamwork of skipper Christophe Killian, main/tactician Jack Thompson, primary trim Stefan Kuehn, primary trim Noah Blacker, secondary trim Howie Meyers, pit Hanna Horan, mast Scott Nord and bow Liam Harr.
Back on the East Coast, the Cougars won at the home-hosted Charleston Spring Coed title, finished third at the St. Mary's Team Race and placed fifth at the Navy Spring Women's regatta.
At the Charleston Spring Coed, the Cougars put on a clinic finishing with just 50 points through the 14-race series and posting over 20 bullets throughout the event held at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex. Meanwhile, the second-place team finished with 118 points. Sailing for Charleston was Jack Cusick and Marissa Bamonte in A-Division and 2016 Summer Olympian Stefano Peschiera and Maura Lonergan in B-Division.
Up at St. Mary's College of Maryland, the team race squad comprised of Jake Reynolds, Ryan Davidson, Dodge Rees, Reed Baldridge, Grace McCarthy, Beka Schiff and Chloe Dapp brought home a third-place podium finish with an impressive 6-3 record in St. Mary's, Md.
At the Navy Spring Women's event, the CofC women managed a strong fifth-place showing in the 19-team field with competitive racing in light conditions over the course of the two-day event in Annapolis, Md. Those competing for the Cougars included Elizabeth Pemberton, Emily Stuart, Caroline Bracken, Clare Dahl, Bayley Davidson, Nikki Medley and Irene Abascal.
With the conclusion of spring-break racing, the Cougars will have a four-regatta slate up next at the St. Mary's Women's on March 19 in St. Mary's, Md., North Points #3 hosted by Georgia Tech on March 19-20 in Atlanta, the Szambecki Team Race hosted by Old Dominion on March 19-20 in Norfolk, Va., and the Graham Hall Team Race hosted by Navy on March 19-20 in Annapolis, Md.
