CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston sailing team put together another successful and competitive weekend with its team race, women's and coed squads up-and-down the East Coast.
The Cougars tied for third at the Graham Hall Team Race hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Jake Reynolds, Chloe Dapp, Ryan Davidson, Emily Stuart, Dodge Rees, Grace McCarthy, Reed Baldridge and Beka Schiff combined for a 14-6 record over the course of two days of racing.
“Sunday was even colder with the wind still puffy and shifty form the Northeast,” CofC Head Coach Ward Cromwell said. “The initial round robin completed at around noon and we split the fleet up into Top 6, Middle 6 and Bottom 4 groups for another set of round robins. A Final Four was attempted, but only two of the three flights were completed before the 3 p.m. cutoff time and the round robin was abandoned.”
The conditions at the St. Mary's Women's event were very similar on both days of competition in St. Mary's, Md. Shifty and moderately light breeze led to some very challenging and dynamic sailing. Elizabeth Pemberton, Caroline Bracken, Annabel Carrington, Nikki Medley and Irene Abascal made a respectable sixth-place finish for the Cougars.
Meanwhile, Tily Milburn, Maura Lonergan, Hannah Baylis and Clare Perry won the North Points #3 regatta hosted by Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Ga. In a tight race, the Cougars prevailed to claim their fifth North Points victory of the season.
The Cougars will next at the Szambecki Team Race hosted by Old Dominion on March 26-27 in Norfolk, Va.
