Cougars Finish Third at Lander Show

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The College of Charleston equestrian team finished third behind Converse College and the University of South Carolina at the Lander University Show on Saturday.

After four classes the Cougars had a total of three points. Four team classes remained and the team made a run at it, winning three of the four classes and finishing second in the other. Converse ended the day with 33 points followed by South Carolina with 31.

"We seem to have one show every year where we just can't seem to get going," said CofC Head Coach Bob Story on his team which ended the day with 29 points.

Freshman Molly Coyle (Davidsonville, Md.) won her section of Novice Fences followed by a win by sophomore Mia Vawter (Goshen, Ky.) in Novice Flat.

Freshman Elif Caynak won Walk Trot and junior Madison King (Chapin, S.C.) was second in her section of Walk/Trot/Canter. The second-place finish by King qualified her for the IHSA Regional Finals, which will be hosted by College of Charleston on March 5 at Storybook Farms on Johns Island.
