WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Deanna King (Sumter, S.C.) set a pair of personal-records in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes, as the College of Charleston track and field team combined for nearly a dozen personal-bests and four new entries on the program's top-10 performers lists to highlight a stellar showing at the JDL College Team Challenge on Thursday evening.
"It's great to see us ahead of Elon in a head to head meet at this juncture in the season," said head coach Amy Seago. "We competed without a full squad and some of our top point getters, which is very encouraging. Overall, I feel we had a great team effort this evening."
Of Charleston's sixth head-to-head team matchups, the Cougars bested their opposition in five – including a 36-point difference against Wake Forest, a three-point edge on The Citadel, and a narrow one-point margin against Elon.
King posted a pair of third-place performances in the 60- and 200-meter dashes, as the junior posted PR's of 7.85 and 25.89 seconds, respectively. Maya Pringle (Irmo, S.C.) improved on her season-best by three-hundredths of a second with a time of 8.18 seconds in the 60-meter dash.
Katherine Linn (Newhall, Calif.) turned in a career performance in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:01.29, besting her previous personal landmark by nearly three seconds to slot into ninth on the program's top-10 list, as Marissa Small-Towns (Decatur, Ga.) raced to a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run with a mark of 2:19.43.
Tori Churchill (Greensboro, N.C.) and Ellen Feringa (Covington, La.) continued their superb seasons with matching personal-bests in the mile, finishing fourth and sixth, respectively, with times of 5:10.63 and 5:17.46. Churchill's time moves her into seventh on the top-10 performers list, while Feringa makes her first career appearance on the list at No. 10.
Jenny Martin (Lansdale, Pa.) tied for third in the high jump with a personal-best of 1.50 meters, a mark which ties her for 10th on the program's top-10 performers list. She would add a seventh-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.51 seconds.
Simone Harris (Greenville, S.C.) paced the Cougars in the weight throw with a mark of 13.19 meters, while Alex Coyle (Corunna, Ontario, Canada) and Courtney Brooks (Rogersville, Tenn.) placed 13th and 16th, respectively, with throws of 12.88 and 11.61 meters.
The Cougars will be back in action next Friday, February 17 at Clemson's Tiger Tune Up at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.
