FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - College of Charleston sophomore Tess Masselink continued her outstanding season by finishing as the runner-up at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships at Bethpage State Park.

Masselink shaved more than 27 seconds off her personal-best time in the 6K race, covering the distance in 21:16.1 to move into third place in Charleston history. She finished only 2.9 seconds behind individual champion Coralea Geraniotis of Elon.

By placing second she matched Micky Kawhol as the top finisher by a Cougar athlete at a conference cross country meet. Kawhol was the runner-up at the Trans America Athletic Conference Championships in 1991.

On the men's side, Declan Hines also turned in a personal record and the third-fastest time in school history with a mark of 24:54.0 in the 8K race. His time was good for a 15th place finish, just three spots shy of All-CAA honors.

The Cougar men took fifth place in the team standings while the women were seventh. William & Mary won both team titles, and Hofstra's Alex Masai was the men's individual champion.

Cate Ambrose finished second among Cougar women, setting a personal record and placing 28th with a time of 22:19.2, lowering her previous best by just over two seconds. Rounding out the top five for the women were Kristen Cherry (22:48.7), Jace Kosiorek (24:19.4) and Jasmine Smith (24:19.8).

Joining Masselink, Ambrose, Cherry and Smith with personal records at the 6K distance were Eileen Vedder (24:20.2), Emma DeRoberts (25:15.9) and Laurie Fogleman (26:43.3).

Hayden DiBona led a quartet of Charleston men who finished between 32nd and 41st with a time of 25:41.8. Sam Beattie (35th, 25:47.4), Evan Peirce (37th, 25:49.7) and Jack Wedge (41st, 26:09.4) rounded out the Cougar scorers, with Peirce establishing a personal best.

Also competing for the Charleston men were Ryan Moosbrugger (26:14.2), Tyler Fish (26:14.9), Nick Rienzo (26:38.5) and William McCann (27:48.7).

The Cougars compete next at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Rock Hill, S.C., on November 9.
