BRYAN, Texas – College of Charleston sophomore Michael Sass (Louisville, Ky.) closed out tournament play at the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Bryan Regional tied for 28th (+4) at the par-72 Traditions Golf Club.
The 2018 Colonial Athletic Association Men's Golfer of the Year carded rounds of 71, 75 and 74 for a three-round score of 220. It marked his second-straight appearance at NCAA Regionals – as a freshman in 2017 with his team and as a sophomore in 2018 as an individual. Sass turned in the eighth-lowest 54-hole total of the individuals playing at the regional.
"It wasn't the finish we were hoping for after the first round, but overall it was a pretty steady tournament," CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said. "I'm looking forward to the next couple of years with this team. We are a young group with a lot of upside and it will be exciting to see how our guys improve moving forward."
No. 8 nationally-ranked Chandler Phillips of host Texas A&M University was the individual medalist shooting 11-under par with rounds of 68, 68 and 69. No. 2-ranked Texas A&M (-27), No. 14 Clemson (-18), No. 11 Baylor (-7), No. 26 UCLA (+2) and No. 23 Kentucky (+10) were the Top 5 teams to advance to the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's Golf National Championship next week at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla.
