
Cougars Finish Strong at Phebe Corkran King Women's, Mendleblatt Team Race

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. --- Marian Williams and Nicole Simon skippered College of Charleston to a tie for first in A-Division to help the Cougars finish second at the Phebe Corkran King Women's on Saturday and Sunday at the J. Stewart Sailing Complex. The Cougars placed third at the Mendleblatt Team Race in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Charleston finished the Phebe Corkran King Women's with 98 points to edge out Navy for second behind regatta champion Georgetown. The Cougars and Hoyas each totaled 44 points to tie for first in A-Division as Charleston placed third in B-Division with 54 points.
Williams skippered the opening six races for the Cougars in A-Division collecting two wins and five top-five finishes. Simon took the tiller for the final seven races posting two victories and four top-two performances. Adrianna Lee crewed all 13 races in A-Division. Kiera O'Reardon skippered the Coguars to 54 points in B-Division alongside crew Roxanne Snyder.
The Cougars placed third at the Mendleblatt Team Race with a 12-12 record – two wins behind second-place Jacksonville. Brandon Gellar, Jack Howard and James Whitmore skippered for Charleston alongside crews Anna Sherry, Elizabeth DiPietro and Mary Morano. Charleston posted a 2-2 mark in each of the first four rounds with a 3-1 mark in round six.
The Cougars return to the gunwale next weekend with two home regattas on the schedule: the Spring Ocean Race on Saturday and Bob Bavier Team Race on Saturday and Sunday at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex. Charleston will also sail at the ODU Women's on Saturday and Sunday in Norfolk, Va.
