Cougars Sink Pirates in CAA Opener

 
CHARLESTON, S.C.-  The College of Charleston men's basketball team conquered the Hampton Pirates with a 89-61 victory on Thursday night in TD Arena for their 12th straight victory. It was the first meeting as CAA rivals for the Cougars and Pirates.
 
The Cougars dropped nine threes on the night, including a stretch of five straight from Ryan Larson, Reyne Smith, Dalton Bolon, Pat Robinson III and Ben Burnham. The Cougars entered the locker room at the half shooting 20-for-27 from the field and 8-for-12 from beyond the arc, good for a 76% shooting effort.
 
The second half was highlighted by a collection of hustle plays as the Cougars were able to find 27 fast break points thanks to a seven second half steals. The Cougars had nine steals on the night, the most this season since the program's victory over Virginia Tech.
 
Propelled by a strong offensive performance and clutch shots behind the paint, the Cougars saw a season-high performance from Robinson III with 19 points along while five other Cougars joined him in double-digits.
 
Game Notes
  • Robinson III's D1 career-high 19-point performance was followed by Ante Brzovic's 6-for-9 night from the field totaling 15 points with three steals.
  • Raekwon Horton was 4-for-7 with 12 points followed by Larson and Bolon finished with 11 points each. Smith scoring 10 to round out the Cougars' double-digit performances.
  • Jaylon Scott contributed with seven rebounds and five assists for an outstanding defensive performance.
