
Cougars Finish Third at Nelson Roltsch, USF Women's Team Races

NEW ORLEANS --- The College of Charleston sailing team turned in a pair of third-place performances at the Nelson Roltsch Team Race and the USF Women's Team Race over the weekend while the offshore team placed fifth at the CORA Frostbite Race.
Charleston sailed to a third-place finish at the Nelson Roltsch Team Race in New Orleans, La. with a 9-6 record including a 4-1 mark in round two. Axel Stordahl, Pierce Ornstein and Taylor Hasson skippered for the Cougars with Noelle Owen, Anna Sherry and Adrianna Lee crewing. Max Anker and Jack Sutton served as alternates.
The Cougars also placed third at the USF Women's Team Race in St. Petersburg, Fla. with three wins against South Florida. Kiera O'Reardon, Fredrikke Foss and Rowan Schanley skippered for CofC with Lucy Klempen, Roxanne Snyder and Sophia Browne crewing. Grace Squires and Kalea Woodard served as alternates.
Charleston's offshore team capped the weekend with a fifth-place finish by Soul at the CORA Frostbite Race while Cougar placed ninth. Soul, with Sean Groskoph at driver, finished with 22 points. Joining Groskoph on Soul were: Burke Anvari at main, Julianna Corso at primary, Braden Johnson at secondary, Kate Schmiege at pit, Evan Chenard at mast and Cade Morris at bow. Skye Ehrhart was at driver for Cougar with John McCarthy at main, Megan Fetterley at primary, Maggie Wilcox at secondary, Hadley Walsh at pit, Olivier Geraghty at squirrel, Nick Dunphey at mast and Connor Marion at bow.
The Cougars are back on the water next weekend with three regattas on the schedule including the Phebe Corckran King Women's Team Race on Saturday and Sunday at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Complex. Charleston will also travel to St. Petersburg, Fla. for the Mendelblatt Team Race on Saturday and Sunday, and Columbia, S.C. for a North Points regatta on Saturday.
