ANNAPOLOIS, Md. --- College of Charleston assistant sailing coach Conner Blouin has been named as one of five finalists for the coveted 2021 US Sailing Rolex Yachtsman of the Year Award announced US Sailing officials Friday.
"Conner is one of the hardest working sailors and coaches in America," Director of Sailing Kevin Jewett said. "His success as a coach and racer is no surprise but is totally unique in our world. Normally it is one or the other – rarely does a sailor have the bandwidth to be at the top of the game both as a coach and competitor."
Blouin put together a 2021 to remember after dominating the 83-boat fleet to win the 2021 Sunfish North American Championship and finishing third at the 100-boat Sunfish World Championships. The highlight of Blouin's season likely came in his victory at the prestigious US Sailing Championship of Champions, sailed in Lightnings, as well as a victory at the WASZP North American Championship.
The Tampa native has played an integral role in the Cougars' success since his arrival in 2018 helping CofC capture a pair of national championships, including the program's third women's dinghy crown last spring. Blouin was also instrumental in Charleston collecting its ninth Leonard B. Fowle Trophy in 2021.
Established in 1961 by US Sailing and sponsored by Rolex Watch, U.S.A. since 1980, the annual presentation of US Sailing's Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year awards are considered the sport's ultimate recognition of an individual's outstanding on-the-water achievements for the calendar year. The winners of the 2021 awards will be announced and presented with specially engraved Rolex timepieces in conjunction with the US Sailing Association Awards this spring on a date and at a location to be announced soon.
