
Cougars Win North Points #6, Finish Third at Szambecki and Seahawk Women's Team Races

WILMINGTON, N.C. --- The College of Charleston sailing team swept both divisions at North Points #6 to pick up its sixth regatta victory of the spring while also finishing third at both the Szambecki Team Race and Seahawk Women's Team Race to conclude a successful weekend on the water.
Charleston cruised to a 17-point win at North Points #6 on Sunday in Wilmington, N.C. totaling 20 points between A- and B-Divisions in eight rotations. Christofor Tella, Jr. skippered the Cougars to a 10-point win in B-Division with seven wins out of eight races alongside crew Grace Beard. Charlie McKenzie and Nina Lubchenco won A-Division by seven points with 11 points and six wins.
The Cougars continued their strong sailing with a 10-8 record and a third-place finish at the Seahawk Women's Team Race on Saturday and Sunday in St. Mary's, Md. Fredrikke Foss, Kiera O'Reardon and Grace Squires skippered for the College with Roxanne Snyder, Cara Samson, Anna Sherry, Rowan Schanley and Chloe Hudgins each rotating at crew.
After opening the regatta with a 6-4 record in round one, Charleston posted a 2-1 record in a sail off to earn a spot in the top six. The Cougars finished third in the top six with a 3-2 mark and went 1-2 in the final four to place third in the regatta.
Charleston closed out the weekend with a 7-6 record and a third-place finish at the Aaron Szambecki Team Race in Norfolk, Va. Axel Stordahl, Brandon Geller and Max Anker skippered for the College with Jack Sutton, Lucy Klempen, Kaelin Stock, Kalea Woodard and Perice Ornstein crewing. The Cougars opened the regatta with a 5-4 record in round one and went 2-2 in the top six.
The Cougars will compete for a pair of conference championships next weekend when CofC travels to St. Petersburg, Fla. to sail in the SAISA Women's Team Race Championships on Saturday, April 2 and the SAISA Women's Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
