SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. – College of Charleston men's golf's historic season came to a close on Sunday at the NCAA National Championships. The Cougars placed 30th at the Championships in Scottsdale, the second-best national finish in program history. CofC shot a 73-over par for the week at Grayhawk Golf Club, highlighted by a third-round 295, which was one of the top rounds in Sunday's afternoon wave.
CofC's historic campaign ends with a CAA Championship, a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Regional and the second NCAA Championship berth in program history. The Cougars will bring back all but one player in 2022-23 as Charleston's six-player National Championship lineup featured three freshmen and two sophomores.
Freshmen Kieron van Wyk was CofC's top finisher at the National Championship, placing T-105. After individual medalist honors at the CAA Championship and a T-4 finish at the NCAA Regional, van Wyk rounds out his freshman campaign for the record books leading the Cougars against the nation's best.
Senior Jack Parrott and freshman Nevill Ruiter both finished T-127, respectively. Parrott ended his collegiate golf career in style with a 1-under par 69 on the Par-70 Raptor Course, the best round by any Cougar on Sunday. He went 3-under on a front-nine 32 and finished his final round as a Cougar with four birdies. Ruiter carded two birdies in Round 3 and shot a 5-over 75.
Freshmen Tim Bertenbreiter subbed in the lineup prior to Round 2 and shot a 77 followed by a 6-over 76 in Round 3, scoring for CofC on both days. Sophomore Zach Reuland finished 142nd at 28-over par. His final round of the season was highlighted by a hole-in-one on Grayhawk's Par-3 eighth hole. He shot a 5-over 75 on Sunday.
