No. 18 Cougars Extend Winning Streak to 18 by Defeating William & Mary

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The No. 18 College of Charleston men's basketball team defeated William & Mary 82-54 in front of another sold out crowd of 5,120 in TD Arena Monday night to extend its winning streak to 18.

The Cougars opened the game with a 7-0 run from Ante Brzovic, and CofC pushed the lead to 14 when Reyne Smith buried a triple and earned the foul. Back-to-back triples from Ben Burnham brought the Cougars up 28-10. 

Charleston's defense contributed to the dominance, not allowing a basket for five minutes at the end of the first half. The Cougars entered the locker room with a strong lead at 42-24.

Reigning CAA Player of the Week Dalton Bolon opened the second half with a three to push the lead to 21. The Cougars kept pulling away after a 6-0 run brought the score to 51-28. CofC's defense continued to shine, forcing four turnovers within five minutes, and Smith's fourth triple of the night gave Charleston its largest lead of the night at 32. 

The Cougar bench outscored the Tribe's 34-16. Charleston forced 18 turnovers that led to 25 points.

  • Ante Brzovic led all scorers with 17 points and had a team-high three steals
  • Ben Burnham added 13 points and led the Cougars with eight rebounds
  • Dalton Bolon contributed 15 points, shooting 3-for-4 from beyond the arc

Game Notes

  • The Cougars dropped 16 triples from seven scorers for a new season best.
  • CofC's defense matched a season best seven blocks including two each from Burnham and Jaylon Scott. 
  • Charleston did not allow a three from William & Mary all night for the first time since Feb. 13, 2014.
  • The Cougars dished out 17 assists on 29 baskets and committed only nine turnovers.
