ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team fell to Duquesne 90-72 on Friday night at the United States Naval Academy in the tenth annual Veterans Classic.
The Cougars struggled offensively through the opening minutes of the contest, going nearly five minutes without a bucket.
A Reyne Smith triple with ten minutes remaining in the half kick started the offense to lead into Khalil London's first points in a Charleston uniform on a driving layup off a pass from CJ Fulton.
Aggressive play on both sides of the ball saw the Cougars enter the bonus with three minutes left in the frame. Duquesne went 1-for-10 from the field while Charleston slowly found their offensive rhythm to erase a 17-point deficit to take the lead with just over a minute until the break.
Charleston earned seven points from the charity stripe for a 9-0 run to take a 37-33 edge entering the locker room.
Duquesne started the second half on a 13-2 run to regain the lead. Ben Burnham ended the stretch with two in the paint before a triple from Khalil London and old fashioned three-point play from Ante Brzovic tied the contest.
From there, Duquesne controlled the pace of the contest outscoring Charleston 31-13 in the final eight minutes of the contest to secure the win.
