Cougars Place Sixth in Match Race National Championship

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- College of Charleston sailing finished sixth in the 2023 ICSA Match Race National Championship falling in the quarterfinal round Saturday. Charleston's offshore team also placed tenth in the Kennedy Cup in Annapolis at the Naval Academy.

Charleston finished their Friday with a 5-4 record and owning a tiebreak against Stanford thanks to a head-to-head win. The Cougars defeated the Cardinal, Tulane, Chicago, Jacksonville and Navy to sit fourth after one day of action and advance to the quarterfinals.

Saturday saw the Cougars fall twice in the quarterfinals to reigning national champion Yale.

In the Kennedy Cup, the Cougars' offshore team finished Saturday with 18 points as conditions only allowed two races to take place on the opening day. Sunday saw the Cougars only able to sail in one race due to weather conditions again, posting nine points for 27 total.
