HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The College of Charleston softball team lost to Stony Brook 5-3 Tuesday afternoon at the CAA Tournament to conclude the 2023 campaign. The Cougars finished with a 11-12 conference record, their best mark since going 12-9 during the 2017 season.
Shealyn Starks led the Cougar offense with her three RBI. She stepped up to the plate in the first inning to drive home
Karlee Hughes from second and put CofC on the board first.
The Seawolves put up two runs in the third, but the Cougars responded in the bottom of the frame when Starks singled again to drive home two runs and take a 3-2 lead.
Payton Lemire came in for relief in the fifth, but Stony Brook scored two more off of two Cougar errors to retake the lead. The Seawolves added an insurance run in the seventh, and the final three Charleston batters were retired in order to give Stony Brook the win.
