CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston sailing team has a busy schedule with five regattas on the schedule over the course of two days including the Ashley River Trophy and SAISA Match Race.
The Conner Blouin era has started off on a high note for Charleston as the program has a pair of SAISA wins in as many weekends while Benjamin Dufour qualified for the Singlehanded Nationals in his dominant showing last weekend in Florida. All seven sailors who represented The College last weekend in Singlehand Championships placed among the top-six in both men's and women's divisions.
Dufour was named SAISA Open Sailor of the Week on Thursday after his dominant showing last weekend.
Charleston can claim a third SAISA win to open the fall slate – all coming on home waters. Charleston claimed a 35-point win in the SAISA Top-9 led by Noah Zittrer, Chloe Hudgins, Benjamin Dufour and Lucy Klempen, then freshmen Jon Ciffilillo, Andrea Melnik, Dillon Garcia and Clara Murphy posted a 45-point win in the SAISA Top-6. Zittrer and Hudgins' efforts landed them SAISA Sailors of the Week to open the season.
Should the Cougars collect a Match Race title this weekend they would advance to compete in the 2023 ICSA College Match Racing National Championship November 4-5 for the Cornelius Shields Sr. Trophy.
Charleston is also set to sail for the Ashley River Trophy and both Sugar Bowl Open and Sugar Bowl Women's regattas while the offshore team makes their fall debut at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Regatta.
