COLUMBIA, S.C. - The College of Charleston softball team was handed a 4-0 loss to South Carolina after weather issues ended the game in the top of the sixth inning.
The Gamecocks took a 2-0 lead in the second after a bases-loaded walk that was immediately followed up with a sacrifice fly.
Payton Lemire only allowed two hits and worked through back-to-back scoreless innings in the third and fourth. However, South Carolina's lead-off single in the fifth led to two more runs in the frame.
Malaka Belser and
Halle Cannon accounted for the Cougars' two hits, and Belser was left on base after being walked when the game was called in the sixth.
The Cougars return to Patriots Point this weekend to host the Low Country Classic. Charleston will face Wofford and Evansville on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
