CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's basketball team ended the regular season with an 87-76 win over Hofstra for their ninth straight victory. Charleston becomes the first team to win the league by two games since George Mason in 2011.
Charleston honored graduate students Bryce Butler and Frankie Policelli along with student managers Jonah Wexler and Kaitlyn Hubany prior to the start of the contest.
The Cougars started the game on a 15-3 run before Hofstra responded with a 7-0 run of their own. Butler snapped the streak with an emphatic dunk to awaken the TD Arena crowd. Charleston went on to shoot 53% from the field in the frame while causing nine Hofstra turnovers to enter the locker room up 45-36.
Charleston led by as many as 18 in the second half until Hofstra cut it to seven with ten minutes left to play. Back-to-back layups from Policelli and Ben Burnham pushed the lead back to 13 and the Cougars never looked back.
