CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston sailing team swept the Skipper and Crew of the Year awards in the 2023-24 All-SAISA Awards.
Benjamin Dufour was the named the Open Skipper of the Year while Emma Tallman was named the Women's Skipper of the Year. Lucy Klempen was named the Open Crew of Year and Chloe Hudgins was named the Women's Crew of the Year. Jonnie Ciffilillo and Isabella Shakespeare were named Skipper Rookie of the Years while Clara Murphy was named the Crew Rookie of the Year.
SAISA Conference Superlatives recognize consistent, outstanding performances by student-athletes all across our conference. Once again, a volunteer committee studiously reviewed regatta results and individual sailor performances over the two seasons in review (Fall 23/Spring 24) to identify and recognize outstanding performance and competitive contributions made by SAISA student-athletes.
All-SAISA award nominees were selected based on results throughout the college sailing year, with consideration of quality and quantity of events sailed. Special emphasis was also placed on competition and results in high-level SAISA events, i.e. SAISA-hosted interconference events, SAISA Conference Championships, and high-level interconference regattas. Additionally, crews were selected with consideration in competing in both Women's and Open categories. Crews who dramatically improved the results of the people they sailed with were also considered. Seniority and leadership were used as tie-breaking factors.
Axel Stordahl and Noah Zittrer were named to the All-SAISA Open Skippers first team with Dufour while Brandon Geller earned a spot on the second team. Grace Squires joined Tallman on the All-SAISA Women's Skippers first team and Emily Alfortish earned a spot on the second team.
Marina Dryer, Garrett Grenauer, Hudgins, Aiden Iaconis, Klempen, Noelle Owen, and Rowan Schanley earned a spot on the All-SAISA Crew. Dillon Garcia was a finalist for the Open Skipper of the Year.
The Cougars are competing this weekend at ICA Open and Women's Championship in Boston. Stay tuned to cofcsports.com for updates.
