CHARLESTON, S.C. – The 2024 MEAC Rookie of the Year Deywilk Tavarez has signed his National Letter of Intent to join the College of Charleston men's basketball program head coach Chris Mack announced Tuesday.
"Deywilk Tavarez is a talented young man that we are super excited to have join the Cougars. Deywilk is a point guard with the ability to get in the lane, create for himself and play with a winning spirit," said Mack.
Tavarez, who has three years of eligibility remaining, played his rookie season at Delaware State. The New Jersey native collected five MEAC Rookie of the Week honors throughout the season and recorded 19 double-digit performances with six 20-point games and one 30-point outing.
Tavarez posted a career-high 31 points and ten assists in the Hornets vs. Norfolk State. He finished the season ranked fourth overall in the MEAC in points per game (17.0), fourth in field goal percentage (43.2), seventh in free throw percentage (81.8), fifth in three-pointers per game (2.1), third in assists per game (3.5) and third in steals per game (1.8). He led the Hornets in assists this past season with 118 total.
"He can play off the ball and guard either position in the backcourt. He can't wait to get on campus. Our fans are going to love Deywilk's passion for the game."
